Trapdoor
Ariana Overton
How do you hide from a serial
killer who knows where you live, who you are and has the internet to help
him track you, get to know you and move into your life?
When Briana Kilmer decides to change her life and write a novel about
a serial killer in St. Louis, Missouri, she has no idea the monster really
exists. She sends her story to an internet group of writers only to have
the real killer read her work and decide she knows too much of the truth.
Trapdoor will launch you into a world where no sane person can survive.
Murder, insanity and terror await you below the trapdoor.

Briana Kilmer has been working on a mystery manuscript for months, and
is questioning whether it is good enough to continue writing or not. After
all, this is her first attempt at a novel; she's a member of the Wannabe-a-Writer
Club. She has posted three chapters of her story on the Internet to the
other amateur-writer members, hoping to get some constructive feed back.
St. Louis has its share of murders that she generally ignores. But the
killing of a 35-year-old woman who was placed in the window of a Target
store
for some reason has held Briana's attention enough that she
is making this murder the focal point of her story. Since hardly anyone
has commented on her work, she is heavy into the doldrums of doubt about
her writing skills.
Briana met Hank Devereaux, a retired California State Patrolman, on the
Internet, and over the past year has become a good cyber friend.
He was not only a good friend, but was a valuable and surprising source
of information for her book.
This morning there was only one comment on her e-mail about her story.
A cryptic note telling her that she knew too much, and that the writer
of the note was going to have to come and see her. A bit concerned, Briana
goes to her computer-expert son Brian to see if he can track down the
sender by his return e-mail address. But this clever killer stays one
step ahead of them, and the police. No matter how close Brian gets to
him, he slips away, taunting them as he leaves them behind.
Ms. Overton treats us to a cyber ride across the Internet that is so nicely
woven into the plot that this reviewer savored the information, and learned
a bit in the process. Brian truly knows his business. Ms. Overton is an
expert at hiding clues in plain sight. As the story comes to its astounding
conclusion, one sees the clever, talented, original plotting by the writer.
No set formula here, just an excellent, thriller of a story by a first-rate
author.
