Through
The Spirit
Pat Riordan
If there
is no truth in the tales of the mythical King Arthur of Britain during
the 5th and 6th centuries, there is certainly an element of mystery.
For centuries historians
have conjectured about the existence of King Arthur. Early scholars believed
the stories, 'were not all a lie, nor all true, not all fable, nor all
known.'
Thus it could be
said that the Arthurian stories are a combination of history, myth, romance,
fairy tale and religious parables.
Arthurian stories
have lived for centuries and will most probably live on forever. To this
end, children will enjoy reading about the magic, mystery, science, and
romance of these times.
'Through the Spirit'
is written as a fantasy of mythical, historical fact. It is written for
teenagers with the idea in mind that in order to perpetuate these stories,
we may have to translate them into the idioms of today.
Jon Hooper is a typical teenager living with his family in the 21st Century.
One morning, after
an accident, Jon wakes up and thinks he is in a dream. It turns out to
be more like a nightmare. He discovers that he has been thrown back in
time - into an Arthurian legend. Here, his adventure starts. He tries
hard to fathom out where he is, and how to get back to the 21st Century,
and in doing so, finds himself part of the spirit of the legends.
Does he find a way
to return home?
