"The Spacewalk Cover-up"

A space shuttle astronaut dies a horrifying death--burst blood vessels, boiling blood--when his life support system fails in a spacewalk incident. It is later learned to be a murder.

Alex MacEnroe, an ex-congressman, ex-astronaut, heads the accident board of inquiry and is instructed to cover up the murder. He learns that another astronaut--Shane Bensen--the commander of the ill-fated shuttle mission, was to have been murdered instead. The director at NASA Houston and an Air Force officer--Colonel Steele--heading a secret space plane project, are involved in a conspiracy to kill Bensen.

On a previous mission, Bensen had observed a space battle between a U.S. space plane and what he believes to be an alien spaceship, with the destruction of the space plane. Bensen refuses to keep this secret, but Colonel Steele, insanely guarding his project, believes this sighting must be kept secret at any cost.

Alex has second thoughts about his role in the investigation and refuses to participate in the cover-up and is discharged. Finally, the members of the conspiracy bring about the murder of Bensen, which is again portrayed as an accident. Alex returns to his home in Washington D.C.. His mentor, a senator and member of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, convinces Alex to reveal his findings at a classified hearing. Colonel Steele, who has masterminded the conspiracy, is brought in to testify at the Pentagon hearings. Later, he is found dead in a bizarre incident at the space plane test site in New Mexico. He leaves a letter and pictures marked, "Only for the eyes of the President of the United States." The letter relates the loss of one of the U.S. space planes and the pictures reveal an alien spaceship hovering near the test site. Colonel Steele claims that he has been ordained to communicate with the alien spaceship to save humanity.

The senator and Alex are summoned to tell the president what they know about the space plane project. The president shares the letter from Colonel Steele. It is concluded that the colonel was not of a sane mind and a decision is made to cover up the disappearance of the space plane. Alex is offered a political position in exchange for his cooperation. He considers this but refuses to become involved in continuing this game of deception and declines the presidents offer.

"The Spacewalk Cover-up"---A novel written by a seasoned veteran of the space program. Read the gruesome details of being exposed to the vacuum of space and the revelation of competition among government spook agencies.
