A Kiss Is Just A Kiss

Janet Brown

In 1962 when America was changing from the beatnik to the hippie generation; when women's rights, gay lib, black power, and affirmative action were beginning to make a difference; when women burned their bras and men burned their draft cards; and when the Beatles, JFK, LBJ, electroshock therapy, and birth control pills were on their way in and out, best friends Jeanette Pruette and Emma June Laybourne discover that they have the ability to communicate telepathically. Jeanette is fearful of the power, though, and what it may ultimately do to them.

The girls attend different universities and while Emma June keeps up with Jeanette's life via telepathy, Jeanette becomes infatuated with her visiting English professor, the famous and flamboyant British writer Plymouth Gardmore, who has a penchant for young girls and especially for Jeanette.

About Janet Brown:

In addition to A KISS IS JUST A KISS, Janet Brown is the author of three other published novels plus numerous articles, short stories, and poems.

Her first novel, FILE FOR DEATH, was published (under the name Janet Hart) while she was a student working on her bachelor's degree at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. Her second, WHO'S BEEN SLEEPING IN MY GRAVE? (also under Janet Hart), was published the following year. For eleven years Janet worked for SIU Graphics and Publications as a writer and editor. During that time she freelanced for Junior Scholastic Magazine and received her master's degree in English. She studied with the late John Gardner, acclaimed author of GRENDEL and ON MORAL FICTION, and Kenneth Hopkins, British poet and mystery writer.

After the death of her husband (Dr. Terence Brown, President of Northern State University in Aberdeen, South Dakota), Janet moved to Mississippi and joined the Mississippi Writers Association where she garnered first place awards two consecutive years in the Eudora Welty Film and Fiction Festival for her novels DEADLY VISITS and WEEDS AND WIDOWS.

DEADLY VISITS was published as an e-book in May 2002 and will be out in paperback in 2004 at Atlantic Bridge Publishing (atlanticbridge.net). The book is a winner of the 2003 EPPIE Award for best thriller novel. This international award is given yearly by (EPIC) the Electronically Published Internet Connection organization.

A native of Harrisburg, Illinois, Janet has traveled extensively throughout the United States, Europe, and the South Pacific, and now makes her home in Jackson, Mississippi. She is the mother of three children and is a proud grandmother.
