"Emerald Eyes Pyramid"
Ross Richdale

3rd Book in the Emerald Eyes Trilogy

"Muftin," Maxine, the tiny bird squawked. "We might spoil everything."

"Only if we try to take part," Muftin said. "I promise I will not even twitch a feather. Anyway, Archwizard Lightshield asked us to watch over them."

"By spying through a window?" Maxine shivered. "It's freezing out here and we can hardly see through the iced up glass, anyway."

"You'll see," Muftin whispered.

The two little birds almost slipped on the icy window ledge but used their beaks to pull themselves up to a pane of glass and peep in.
The eyes of those inside created a glow that radiated out across their faces. Hair shone and their sweaters, jeans and ordinary boots fizzled away. The four were now dressed in long gowns, earrings of gold hung down beneath shoulder length free flowing blonde hair and each had a glowing bracelet on their right arm. Even their footwear changed to leather riding boots, tanned and shining.

The whole room pulsed light, pure white and with increasing intensity until the little birds had to look away. There was a faint whoosh and the light disappeared. The birds looked in and saw only the empty chairs and table.

"You know, I almost feel sorry for those guys on the receiving end," Muftin chirped.

"Come on," Maxine said. "Let's go and report to the Archwizard Lightshield."

In libraries throughout the magical worlds, words began to appear on blank pages in the various books of prophecies. These books had different names, were written in different languages and would be read by learned prophets, wizards, monks and students in centuries ahead or in the past. The great stories to guide future generations were timeless.

***

In this latest adventure, the Emerald Eyes wizards and talking birds find themselves in a land a millennium back in time. Xentrix the dragon is with them and they rescue a flying girl about to be sacrificed on a pyre in front of a pyramid.

She is Kondel a Pyram, a humanoid creature with wings who live inside magical pyramids. The enemy in this world are ancient human priests determined to eliminate all flying creatures from their land. Birds have already disappeared and it appears that Kondel is the last of her species left.

But is she?

Cindy, Sylvia and the others set out to find the truth about the evil priests and search for Kondel's kind. Will their magical powers be enough to overwhelm the priests who appear immortal with the ability to travel through time? And why are the tiny birds so important in this latest quest?

All will be revealed in this third story of the Emerald Eyes trilogy. Remember, it is a complete story in its own right and can be read even if you have not followed the earlier Emerald Eyes adventures.

About the Author:

After a career as a teacher and principal of mainly small rural schools, Wayne South writes both science fiction novels and contemporary novels under his real name, Ross Richdale. He lives in the small university city of Palmerston North in the North Island of New Zealand and is married with three children. His wife, Kay, still carries the burden of teaching children at a local primary (elementary) school.

After his wife and daughter go off to work every morning, Wayne shares his living room with a black and white cat who demands to be fed at least six times a day and a goldfish called Survivor who managed to survive being dropped in a glass aquarium that was totally shattered. In this congenial atmosphere, he pounds away on an ancient Macintosh to form the characters and plots for his novels.

Ordinary people rather than the super rich, the super powerful or violent, are the main characters in his novels. He is also keenly interested in current events and uses international incidents as a backdrop for many of his novels.

When he is not writing, Wayne enjoys drawing, usually on the computer. Other interests include wandering in the countryside and, in the summer, swimming in mountain streams or bounding through the rapids in a tractor tire inner tube. Many of his novels reflect his interest in the rural lifestyle as well as the cross section of personalities encountered during his years as a teacher.
