Electronic
Publishing
How It Will Affect The Future of Publishing
Jason Laseman
The introduction
of electronic media is changing the publishing industry. The advent of
the Internet, the ease of its use, the availability of hand-held reading
devices, and many other advances in electronic technology are changing
the way people read, and in turn, changing the way publishers publish.
While traditional publishing purists scoff at the notion of ebooks ever
having a significant, let alone loyal, following, the fact that even the
large, well-known publishing houses either have developed or are developing
electronic lines can not be ignored. Electronic publishing is making an
impact. But the question still remains; how will electronic publishing
affect the future of publishing?
By thoroughly reviewing
the history of electronic publishing, examining its current state, and
interviewing numerous electronic and print publishers, this work authoritatively
defines not only the current state of electronic publishing, but also
what its role will be in the future.
Writers, publishers,
and readers alike will find this information invaluable. For writers,
it provides insight and gives a sense of security as to where their submissions
can be sent. For publishers, it provides an overview of where the market
is now and where their colleagues are going. And for readers, it is an
informative work that will allow them to better understand the changes
currently underway in the publishing world, and answer many questions
that they may have.
